Title: Thickness (caliper) of paper, paperboard, and combined board
Overview
This method measures single-sheet thickness and variations in single sheet thickness of paper, paperboard, and combined board. Due to the relatively high pressure used in this test method, it may not be suitable for measurement of tissue or other soft or low density materials, because the structure may collapse or compress.
Samples
To perform adequate testing ten, 8.5” x 11” sheets are requested. Twenty replicates are to be tested. Twenty replicates can be run on smaller sample sizes if needed. This method is non-destructive so samples can be used to test other methods after completion of the caliper. This sampling information should be adequate for four or five TAPPI methods per request. If more methods are requested, please call to verify the necessary amount of sample.
