Mass Per Unit Area (Weight) of Fabric |
ASTM D 3776 covers the measurement of fabric mass per unit area (weight) and is applicable to most fabrics. The method describes four approved options for use in the measurement of basis weight.
Option A – Full Piece, Roll, Bolt or Cut (Section 7).
Option B – Full Width Sample (Section 8).
Option C – Small Swatch of Fabric (Section 9).
Option D – Narrow Fabrics (Section 10).
The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.
IPS routinely performs Option C of this test method.
