NONWOVENS

Nonwovens – We’ve Got You Covered

Nonwovens are natural or synthetic long fibers that are bonded together mechanically, thermally, or chemically, rather than being woven or knitted. Nonwovens can be made from a single homogenous layer, multiple layers of the same material, or multiple layers of different materials in order to achieve the desired performance and aesthetic properties.

As nonwovens technology continues to expand in the U.S. and North America, so does the range of markets that utilize these materials. Most people are familiar with their use in disposable consumer products such as wipes, incontinence products, and feminine products. Many people are not aware of their use in clothing, cars, construction, medical supplies, filters, home decorating and many other areas of everyday life.

IPS Testing will work with you to determine a suitable course of action for evaluating the key nonwoven properties that drive the success of your application. From Stiffness, Abrasion Resistance and Air Permeability to Barrier Properties, Water Vapor Transmission and Flammability, we can tell you how your materials stack up against your specifications and your competitors. IPS is able to provide physical and analytical services, defect analysis, reverse engineering, litigation services, odor analysis and much more.

Physical Testing

Our independent physical testing laboratory performs a wide range of services specific to the nonwovens industry. Our lab performs many AATCC, ASTM, ISO, and WSP methods for nonwoven materials and products, including: physical, optical and key product properties such as absorbency, durability, strength and flushability. IPS is well-equipped with lab instruments specific to nonwoven materials and products, and features a 5,500 square foot temperature and humidity-controlled testing lab to ensure accurate and reproducible test results.

Analytical, Microscopy and Fiber Services

Our analytical services team is experienced in testing and solving problems for the nonwovens industry. Whether a substance needs to be identified, a competitor’s product needs to be analyzed, or your own materials need to be evaluated, our analytical research lab experts can meet your needs.  Additionally, IPS is the first independent lab in the world to become ISO 17025 accredited for the INDA Flushability Protocol issued in June 2013.

The IPS Physical and Analytical Testing Labs can help you:

  • Verify results and findings using advanced and reliable techniques to measure key material and product properties.
  • Develop specific testing methods to meet your needs
  • Reconcile supplier-buyer conflicts and confirm nonwoven product specifications
  • Determine which testing may give you the answers to solve your problems
  • Support your competitive intelligence efforts by performing reverse engineering on a competitor’s raw materials and products
  • Support any legal testing needed to improve your intellectual property position or litigation
  • Providing service when you are backlogged and in need of either routine or non-routine testing services
  • Provide National Brand Equivalency testing to support your supply chain requirements
  • Provide fiber analysis to determine the types of natural and synthetic fibers used in competitive products. Binder analysis can be done if the nowoven is chemically bonded
  • Provide fiber analysis as part of a “Due Care” compliance strategy with the U.S. Lacey Act
